Spotlight on… Jamaica

Slow your mind and feed your soul in a beautiful place where the beat of reggae fills your ears, the smell of jerk chicken fills your nose, and the taste of rum dances with your tongue. Its little wonder Bob Marley was so inspired by his island home, a kaleidoscope of colors, a proud nation, and the ultimate tropical vibe, you haven’t been to the Caribbean until you’ve been to Jamaica! Let’s take a look at our top five places to go when you’re ready to get down to some Jamaican rest and relaxation:

Negril

While away the hours with a Red Stripe in hand and the sand between your toes, until the sun sets in spectacular fashion in Negril. If any place on earth was made just for relaxation, this is it. Take a stroll along the seven mile beach and make a stop for a rum cocktail and grab a bite to eat as you soak up the sun. You’ll have no choice but to go with the flow and adopt the easy going pace here, so if you’re exhausted from a busy life, head on over to the ‘Capital of Casual’ and recharge.

Kingston

Take in some Jamaican culture and learn about the history of the island in Kingston. Here you will find the Bob Marley museum, which is an absolute must when visiting Jamaica. You’ll also be able to learn about the real Pirates of the Caribbean if you take a trip to Port Royal, once known as the ‘wickedest city in the world’. When you’re done exploring the city, why not take in a sports game or head over to one of the many parties, especially between February and April when the city comes alive with Carnival!

Montego Bay

Fondly known as MoBay to the locals, here you’ll find everything you need for an action packed Caribbean getaway. There’s plenty to see and do, with all manner of activities and water sports. You’ll take in the chilled but chaotic Jamaican way of life, all with the stunning backdrop of the Caribbean we all know and love. This is the perfect place to explore the Caribbean without barriers as Jamaica is an English speaking country, so it’s great for travelers who are new to the region.

Blue Mountains

The Blue mountain peak reaches 2256 meters and from its summit on a clear day you can even see Cuba on the horizon. The longest mountain range in Jamaica is perfect for active adventurers who love hiking or biking. You can spend days exploring the slopes and getting to know all about the famous Blue Mountain Coffee which is cultivated here. If you’re a fan of bird watching, there are over 200 species of birds to be found, as well as the world’s second largest butterfly, the homerus swallowtail.

Treasure Beach

Spend some time with a proud Jamaican community which encourages sustainability all with the mellow vibe we love so much. You’ll get a taste of the real Jamaica as you step away from sprawling resorts to immerse yourself in the Jamaican way of life. The locals will happily teach you about their history and culture, and you’ll be well fed with a delicious selection of typical Jamaican dishes, all fresh and homemade. Connect with the island and switch off from the rest of the world on one of the many secluded beaches you’ll find here. It truly is a treasure.
