Top Five Tips for Exploring New Places

The most awesome part of traveling is having the opportunity to explore new places, cultures, languages, and also learning a little about ourselves along the way! We adore traveling and love sharing our experiences. To help you plan your new adventure, here are our top five tips for exploring new places:

Be Prepared

As much as we expect a picture perfect experience, sometimes accidents happen or we get sick. The best thing that you can do is be prepared! Be sure to take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy, many of which will also help with cancelled flights, not just illness. A first aid kit with the basics is always useful, and saves time when you are in a country where you don’t speak the language, this is what we always have in ours:

  • Acetaminophen/Paracetamol
  • Plasters/Gauze/Basic Wraps/Medical Tape
  • Anti-Sickness/Diarrhea Medication
  • Contraception
  • Iodine/Disinfectant
  • Repellant/Sunscreen
  • Aftersun/Bite Relief
  • Water Purifier

Eat Local

One of the best parts of exploring a new destination is the opportunity to try new food! Contrary to popular belief, the best way to avoid food poisoning is to eat like a local! Find out what the popular dishes are in the country you are traveling in, and let your taste buds explore. You’re going to taste a world of flavors you never knew existed and find new things to love. In addition, since the joy of food translates in every language, you’ll probably make a lot of new friends during your culinary adventures!

Research Local Customs and Language

Take some time to learn a little about the culture and language of your destination. The local people will love you for it! They’ll be happy to help you expand your knowledge if they see that you’re willing and open to try! We have so much fun getting to know new languages and expanding our vocabulary. You’ll be surprised that it can come in useful in the most unusual of situations. Being aware of local customs can help greatly when navigating strange lands, and sometimes keep you out of trouble!

Be Open to Invitations and Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone!

It’s the freedom and opportunities that we love about traveling the most! Spend some time with a local family that invites you to lunch, and learn more about the people. Extend your stay an extra couple of days to explore a city, and take some of those excursions to cross off the most famous things about a destination! Explore your way and be open to all of the amazing possibilities in a new land!

Take Your Time!

While we do advise to have a rough plan for your trip, we don’t recommend that you are tied down with tight time schedule. It’s impossible to see absolutely everything there is to see in any given destination, so pace yourself so that you enjoy every second of the things you do! Remember also about time differences and jet lag. You don’t want to schedule a stop at a bucket list destination, only to be hit by jet lag for two of the three days you planned to spend there. Traveling is an experience, it’s meant to be fluid and carefree! In our experience, always the best times of our lives are those that aren’t planned!
