  • Try to avoid overcrowded areas, you are at more risk in highly populated areas where people are in close contact. Try to maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing
  • Wash hands regularly and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds before eating, drinking or smoking, hand sanitizer can be used when hand washing facilities are not available
  • Add to your hand luggage hand sanitizer or disinfectant wipes to wipe down surfaces (such as airplane tables and armrests) before touching them, although they are regularly cleaned, there is no harm in additionally wiping areas you are going to touch
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. The virus can enter your body through any of these places
  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. Throw used tissues away immediately after use to prevent spreading germs
  • It is only recommended to use a face mask if you are suffering from coughing or sneezing or have a suspected COVID-19 infection
  • Of you feel unwell with a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, stay at home and follow medical advice. Call in advance to ensure your health care provider will direct you to the right care facility

The incubation period of the virus is between 1 and 14 days. For this reason, people travelling in high risk areas could return home with the virus and spread it without realizing they are infected. If you have been traveling in a high risk area in the last 14 days it is recommended to self-quarantine for 14 days, to ensure that you are clear of symptoms after your travel.

If you are in a high risk group (elderly or with preexisting conditions), be sure to follow the advice of your health professional before traveling. If you are not in an area where the virus is spreading, or have not been in an area where the virus is spreading, or have not been in contact with an infected patient, the World Health Organization advises that the risk of being infected is low.
